Lync for Mac 2011 (versions 14.0.5 - 14.0.7) crashes on startup for some users. This behavior is noted for existing users and is not fixed by re-installing Lync. Lync may work by logging in as a different user on the same machine.
The steps to fix are simple and involve deleting a few files and keychain entries.
9 Steps totalStep 1: Close Lync
Press COMMAND-Q to ensure that Lync is fully closed.
Step 2: Open Users /Library Folder.
Open a Finder Window then click Go on the top menu.
Hold down the OPTION key and click on Library.
Step 3: Navigate to /Library/Preferences
Delete the following file:
/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Lync.plist
Step 4: Navigate to /Library/Preferences/ByHost
Delete the following file:
/Library/Preferences/ByHost/MicrosoftLyncRegistrationDB.xxxx.plist
Step 5: Close the Finder Window
Close Finder as it's not needed anymore.
Step 6: Open Keychain Access
Located in the /Applications/Utilities folder.
Step 7: Delete Keychains
Delete any keychains on the left that look similar to this:
OC__KeyContainer__.
In your Login keychain, delete certificate. Step 8: Close Keychain Access
Close Keychain Access as it's not needed anymore.
Step 9: Re-Open Lync
Lync does not need to be re-installed. Re-open Lync and complete the user setup wizard. If Lync continues to crash it may need to be re-installed.
